PROMOTING THE HUSTLE BEHIND THE ENTERTAINMENT
Interviews of Hot New Artists, New Music, Entertainment News & More!
Houston: Upon graduating from Clark Atlanta University with a degree in Public Relations, Latorria Lemon was offered various positions as publicist for different companies and organizations. It was then she decided it was time to start her own company Lemon Limelight Media who offers services is public relations, branding, consulting, and event coordinating. When speaking with Ms. Lemon I was more than excited to begin our interview because it is her passion that too is my own. Ecstatic and eager to learn from her experiences I asked what her definition of success is; she answered, “Success definitely doesn’t mean anything monetary but it is having the ambition of knowing that your drive and ability to work will make your dreams come true.”
“Owning my own brand means a lot to me, it’s almost like birthing your own baby”, says Lemon. Latorria shared that because her company is her baby she proceeds in making decision with great caution in what her baby needs, deserves & is involved with. “I have to ensure that each brand that I’m associated with is conducive and will uplift my brand.” I nodded my head profusely in agreement with Ms. Lemon. Often times we tend to think partnership is always better than individuality but it is a big misconception in building or birthing a dream. Association brings about assimilation and if the goals of a brand are not aligned with your own partnership just wouldn’t make sense.
When having a small business you notice each role of a company more times than once a day. “Knowing every position that is involved in running your own company is the biggest responsibility as an owner. You have to wear many hats. I not only have to know my initial role as a publicist but every other role involved in the maintaining and success of my company.” I sat back thinking of the large fortune five hundred companies with assistants, accountants, receptionists, human resources managers, recruiters and the list goes on. This is where my admiration grows. One person mandating every single piece of business involved in her business is nothing but passion. One could say it’s way too much, too much dedication, and way too much time but that is the beauty of someone having the drive to go into business for themselves. Questions may arise: How do they do it? Where does the motivation come from? Why become your own boss? These questions are what make every entrepreneur so intriguing and inspiring to me.
So many odds come against you as an individual that may cause disappointment or discouragement. I asked Ms. Lemon what hers were she answered, “As a young entrepreneur often times people mistake my youth as being inexperienced until my actions meet my words and I execute the task given. They then know I mean business.” She went into further discussion about their reactions once her task is completed and the readiness they always have to continue in business with her company.
Ms. Lemon is superwoman in regular clothing. With clientele in Atlanta, Houston and New Orleans she is kept very busy with Lemon Limelight Media. Upcoming events include The Women In Need Foundation Fashion with a Passion & a Purpose Spring Bling Fashion Show in Atlanta, GA hosted by the beautiful Mrs. Georgia Globe with appearances from Bravo TV stars and the Atlanta’s hottest radio stations. In Houston, Matthew Knowles & The Music World Artist Showcase takes place every Wednesday at The House of Dereon at 8pm.
I was so baffled by the variety of clientele Ms. Lemon had and how involved she was monthly with each and every one of them; inspiration? YES! Living in Houston, TX she is able to efficiently handle all clients in all locations without thinking twice. Ms. Lemon is definitely rising in the market of Public Relations and doing it very well.
Eager to know myself, I had to ask Latorria what advice she had for aspiring publicists. “Have great writing skills and an awesome personality. Understand what you want, what you need to do, and do it. Never stop, keep going. If there is a vision or goal you have just keep going for it and keep learning everything you can. Be sure to keep a mentor close by and ensure you’re personable because no one wants to deal with a publicist who isn’t personable.” As I scurried to ensure I wrote her answer word for word one portion immediately spoke volumes to me. Understand what you want, what you need to do, and do it. Understand who you are, take thought and get to know what you’re passionate about then hit the ground running.
No one will chase your dreams for you. Keep dreaming, keep chasing. Dreams are unstoppable.
