Interviews of Hot New Artists, New Music, Entertainment News & More!
Houston: Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Leonardo da Vinci, Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, Christian Dior, Tom Ford the list can continue with some of the most creative minds who mastered creating masterpieces. Someone once said, “in order to be great one must be original” these words are exactly what comes to mind when speaking with Houston visionary artist Ryan Robinson who states, “When people see my artwork I want them to see passion, originality and the idea of perfection.” Far from average or anything you’ve ever laid your eyes on this artist sees art as an expression of things one cannot say. “The idea of expressing myself in more ways than one is so intriguing to me. My art is really and truly me, Ryan.”
2009 is when Double R began and when Mr. Robinson knew art would “…forever be a part of my life.” He chuckled as he told the story of how his first piece dedicated to rapper Pimp C was birthed from boredom. Since then he has been featured in art shows and galleries around the Houston area as well as making signature pieces for the famous custom diamond jeweler TV Johnny and rapper Slim Thug.(Just recently this rapper was honored and given his own day in Houston and partnered with Double R’s artwork reflecting his brand Boss Management.) This 26 year old is far from “just getting started” he’s taking off in more directions than one. In addition to painting and creating 3D artwork Ryan has also involved himself with fashion design which features pieces of anything and everything foreign. From Rolls Royce to Porsche he has developed stylish pieces for both men and women that will certainly cause heads to turn.
When asked what the biggest obstacle he faces as an artist he says, “The biggest obstacle is finding and keeping resources needed to continue doing what you love.” He explained that everything is run by money and in some cases it is very difficult to get what you need when you’re your own boss. Robinson went further stating that, “Although it is a potential setback I improvise with things I collect which allows me to utilize my creativity to the utmost.” From cardboard for canvas’s, buttons, ribbons, “…whatever it takes to make it possible I will use it.” I was immediately inspired, some would see this setback as a “sign” of defeat but this artist uses this very consistent setback as a continuous comeback; his confidence in his passion was uncanny.
There was no denying his passion just by how enthusiastic he was in speaking about his old, current, & upcoming projects. “The art of envisioning something in my mind and making it come to life as I go and the want to inspire” says Ryan after being asked what inspires most of his pieces. It was admirable to hear he yearned to inspire others through his work and makes it clear that he wants his audience to respect the different mediums worked with as well as his will to think outside of the box when they see his brand and artwork. “I’m not your average visionary, I think outside the box by making it bigger so that my vision becomes reality”A true original passionately inspiring others through a vision only he can see. Talent at its best providing nothing but quality.
